i phone 11 not showing names for contacts

Those friends who have i phones are not showing names, only their contact numbers in i message, were showing yesterday but now they are only showing numbers in i message, I have done everything suggested online - any ideas anyone

yes ended up phoning apple for support but other than deleting the numbers and re-entering them there seemed nothing they could suggest, have been told if it happens again maybe a software problem so might be a new phone, very odd!The mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o

Mine did that when I let it upgrade to the new IOS, only before the number it said 'Maybe Peter' or Maybe Anne' in front of the numbers of people in my contacts list they were those people (Peter or Anne etc,) It was very strange and then it righted itself.0

Faced same problem few months ago having just bought xs max. Fixed simply by going to Settings -> Contacts -> turn off "Short name". Btw, what iOS version do you use?0
