Hi, I am about to return a laptop that arrived yesterday via an eBay purchase.

However when I go through the returns process, eBay asks me to:

"Select a carrier

You're responsible for return postage. We've included estimated costs to help you pick.

Royal Mail
£3.11

CollectPlus
£4.60"

There's no way I can send a laptop back for those amounts and there is no option to bypass this and select my own courier/cost (which I was planning on reclaiming via Paypal).

If I do select one of the above, I get this message:-

"Review cost estimates

Estimated cost£4.60
CarrierCollectPlus
Payment method: Paypal

You need to authorise this transaction to get your label. You'll be billed for the actual cost of your label after the item is posted."

How should I proceed?

Phone ebay and explain you want to return at your own cost using your own courier - and ask them to over ride the buy label requirement.

Yes this is a problem loophole with ebay's own return labels - they are often not fit for purpose especially if the seller never completed the size & weight against the item.
Best to do as Soolin says

Surely you select Collectplus and then they bill you the Collectplus price on posting?
