I went past the local petrol station on the way to the dump this morning and there was a tanker in there, so no doubt the price will be up again: I believe wholesale markets were up 5p equivalent yesterday. There's far too much going on not to be worried but at least I'll be able to charge my car very cheaply tonight and reduce my average on Agile, which has been a bit high recently at around 16p. The realisation of our dependence on fossil fuels and the resulting prices may wake up a few..
Around where I live in Hampshire EVs are completely commonplace, and not just white Teslas anymore. Very few go back to ICE once experienced with an EV, often via a company car, so frankly I'd be worried about spending money on new generation ICEs and ultimately stranded assets. As the market builds so does the second hand market which is where my cars always used to come from. There is still a lot of misinformation about EVs - "that dangerous regen braking"! is the newest I've heard - but as they get more normalised the market will continue to expand.
I've never had a VW or a Toyota (a Fabia once) and the way they are going looks like I never will.. Admittedly age will play a part..! So I wonder too why investment is being diverted back. Hasn't the new model BMW a large number of pre-orders ISTR, so when a prestige marque gets it right it will help change perceptions?
The cost and weight of batteries is a consideration so I wonder how a smaller battery vehicle but with very fast charging might fare? Italy in a lower range MG4 is perfectly possible, but most of the time I don't need the range. At the moment smaller battery cars seem to have slower charging too but anyone who has seen old French bangers (or mine in the past!) pootling along doing distances on the autoroute will realise that just because a car doesn't normally venture far the ability to do so is important.
Just because a company has spent millions investing doesn't mean that they are going the right route: witness Toyota and hydrogen. In the case of BEVs some companies really need to bite the bullet and get away from their comfort zones.

It will be interesting to see what impact the latest fuel crisis affects new and used car sales. As expected it is encouraging people to consider EVs. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in terms of sales.
Soaring petrol prices drive record demand for electric cars“Autotrader reports 28pc rise in leads for new EVs since the start of Donald Trump’s war in Iran.
Car site Autotrader said it had recorded a surge in enquiries about EVs since the first attacks at the end of February.
The company said leads – expressions of interest passed on to dealers – were at their highest-ever levels. Leads for new EVs were up 28pc since the start of the war, and those for used EVs were up 15pc.
Electric cars now account for almost one in five inquiries – 19.5pc – for used vehicles under five years old. This compares to 5pc of vehicles on the road that are electric.
BYD, the world’s biggest electric carmaker by sales, said last week it was seeing a flood of people coming into its showrooms as a result of the oil crisis.“Link:

At the moment there is a glaring hole in the market for low insurance group EVs leaving my kids who recently passed on our EVs with no insureable EV option to go to. Even a 24 leaf is group 23….

But they'll be saving on fuel, so probably still better off than with a petrol Corsa.
What about Up/Citigo/Mii?

The only decent EV under group 10 is the VW e-Up. But there are plenty less than group 20.

For just passed test 17 year olds groups 1 and 2 are where you want to be (and petrol up and citigo are), 10 is still high!

I posted this in the Agile thread as V2L came up, reposting here for correctness.
What is the current status of V2H (and ultimately V2G). Is this established technology yet or still something waiting to happen?
We are thinking about replacing our car, and still no clue if we should get ICE or EV. V2H/V2G would be a major plus factor for me, but I wouldn't want to buy into immature technology a year or two too early before it's a stable reality.
We were at the KIA showroom recently, and were admiring their EV5 (which has a V2L 3-pin plug in the boot) - the salesman was telling us it's also V2H/V2G, but when I checked online it's only listed as V2L so I have no clue what or who to believe (only the larger EV9 top of the range model was listed as V2H/V2G)

There are a number of cars that are V2G ready, the Renault 5 being one. I think I'm right in saying that Octopus have a V2H scheme with a BYD model which is also V2G ready.

So is anyone here actually powering their home daily via V2H? If so, what are you using and how is it working out. As we were considering adding a Tesla expansion pack at around £5k, I could consider that worth a £5k reduction in the cost of any EV capable of doing V2H if the EV could provide that battery capacity to the home at the end of the day (Tesla PW3 could run the house until late afternoon/early evening and the EV pick up the shortfall on the highest usage days, then recharge both overnight)

We've gone backwards, to an extent, as the Chademo charging system on the original Leafs was bi-directional by design. There was a trial done with Leafs but the chargers cost as much as you'd pay for a used 24kW Leaf, these days.
