Insect deterrants!

A question for the women travellers amongst us. Although I will be bringing insect repellant with me when my friend and I visit Luxor for New Years Eve, I wanted to decrease my chances of being pestered by flying creatures further, is it best to avoid all scented soaps and perfumes or just certain aromas? I have some lovely perfumed travel products but I don't want to be a fragrant feast for any Egyptian creepy crawlies. I don't know if I imagined it but I am sure I read somewhere that the pink, moisturising, Skin so Soft, dry oil spray you get from Avon is a good deterrent?
Any advice welcome
Thanks

in greece we were told the nicer you smell the more likely you are to be bitten, she said at garlic! But the best thing is any repellant with DEET in it, its the super duper stuff of repellants, its what the doc or pharmacist would tell you0
