There is of course also the Dell outlet on Ebay for recon computers. By all acounts they are as new, and in fact are often just cancelled orders which are not worth reconfiguring. Might be worth a look, prices seem very good, and they are obviously a reputable seller.
Canon do a similar thing for cameras, printers, etc, and the photo printer I bought was in every respect as new. Could have been surplus stock, I suppose, but I'm happy, it was half price.....

    Just to add...

The OP mentioned gaming. NON OF THE ONES in this price range and pretty much any up to £700+ are any good for gaming because of the graphics chipsets.
  • The op mentioned one game - a not overly graphically intensive game, certainly not one that uses alot of 3d graphics generated on the fly.

For risk of starting a circular conversation...

Go to www.dmxdimension.com. Check out the Dell Vostro 1000. There is one for £411 but its a much better processor. Register with quidco, go to dell.co.uk from there, select shop by evalue code, use the code from www.dmxdimension.com (prefixed with 305) and get cashback.

If you're buying the Dell you could try ordering over the phone as they will usually beat the website price and discount some upgrades. You lose the quidco but may save more.

Another thing with the vostros is they are Business class machines so you get Business warranty ie Next Day Onsite with them.

If you could stretch your budget a bit further the Vostro 1500 have core2Duo processors and seperate graphics cards (makes a big difference) and currently £50 off and free upgrade to 3 GB ram in the £500 - £600 range depending on config.
