This really is such a good service to have. We replaced our boiler not long after moving in. A friend who was a gas fitter sorted it out for us. 14 months after it being fitted, it completely broke down and we had to purchase another one as it was no longer covered by the guarantee and the friend said that he would have to purchase parts to try to fix it. This was fitted, then we received information on this service and decided to go with British Gas for peace of mind. We only took out the breakdown in August and it has started going faulty again. The engineer has been out today and said that there are common faults with this well known make of boiler.0

I agree with you on BG for utilities but ive used them for homecare for years and in my opinion theyre great.
Ive used them many times and never paid for parts or labour, pretty sure my boiler has been almost rebuilt inside.0 -
I would not recommend their Homecare packages at all.
We have been without hot water and heating for 4 days now (with 2 young children) I have repeatedly called them and have not been given any information about what is happenning. Keep being told that the relevant dept will call me back ASAP that was a day and a half ago and there is no phone number to call them directly. :mad:Wins:-

I had a number of rented properties all with British Gas Homecare (ever tried getting a plumber in a rush when your tenants are getting annoyed) and my experience was very different. Often they would come out the same day I phoned and they were extremely reliable. Have to say though, £1 per month discount isn't a huge saving though. If you were getting anyway I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.0

we've had this for 2 weeks after the heating broke down... was easier to get homecare and the one off fee than find a plumber... and so far the repair bill with a plumber would have been more expensive that what we have now paid for a years cover.
however we were without hot water for 2 days while they came out and without heating for a further 5.. they arranged an appointment and found we needed a new valve (about 1.5 hours work) the guy phoned his boss who ordered him to go to his other jobs and left us with no heat for a whole weekend.0 -
We've had this for a couple of years now and only needed it recently when the pump on the boiler went. Had to wait a couple of days to get someone out, but that was more due to our work commitments than BG. Chap came out, fixed the pump, everything fine, but a couple of days later the boiler started leaking.
Phoned BG, got someone out for the next day, who put a different pump on, replaced all the valves, flushed our tank through and was here about three hours. I can't even begin to imagine what that would have cost and the heating has never worked better!
We've got the one that covers everything. We originally had plumbing cover with Northumbria Water which was cheap but only covered two inside visits and two outside a year (for drains) but then tried to tell us that because our burst pipe had two tiny holes in, that was our two inside visits!
I have had some less than satisfactory experiences with BG but not related to the Home Care package (potentially leaving me without a cooker the day before Xmas Eve because they didn't have the right connection part  - thankfully a friend of ours who's Corgi registered sorted us out)0 -
We ditched BG Homecare a while ago - they repeatedly did not complete the boiler service properly (which was also supposed to include a radiator check). One year we had them out 3 times - each time the service as described was not completed.
Whilst the 'service' was being done, all we got was hard sell for dearer packages (if this went wrong it wouldn't be covered and would cost thousands) and also for insurance policies, car breakdown etc etc etc. They were obviously on commission and my wife (who was on her own) felt very intimidated.
They missed appointments, cancelled at short notice and in one instance phoned at 8.30 am on a Saturday asking if an engineer could attend that morning. We were going out so it was not possible and because we 'refused an allocated appointment' we went back to the bottom of the waiting list.
I complained to BG but, despite efforts, I never got anywhere.
They screwed up our payments and then, when we cancelled, it was very very difficult to get our money back (they take payment in advance for annual service checks).
Absolute and total nightmare and I would urge people to avoid. There are much more reliable services out there.0
