Transfer of Warranty

Hi,
Just bought my first house, and have tried to switch the warranty for the conservatory over from the old owners to myself.
It was provided by the company that built it and backed by GGFi.
I was told by the old owners that it would cost £25 for the name change.

I called GGFi and they said indeed that it would be £25, but that I would need to change the name over with the original company that built it which are still in business.

I've called them and they want £240 for an 'administrative charge'.
This seemed a bit steep! I asked them what this involves to charge so much, but they have bluntly said - "its what we charge for administration". I've paid the money as I wanted the security of cover for the conservatory (original warranty for the previous owners was £13,000) and they didn't sound like they would budge.

They sent me a receipt for 'transfer of warranty' - but no other details, apart from a generic guarantee letter for doors and windows - with no mention of the conservatory, or my name on it.

I'm not sure where I stand with this.

Do I just accept that I'm covered or do I need to get to them for better assurance of cover?

£240 seems excessive, can I still challenge this or is it too late?

Do I still need to change it with GGFi or should I expect the company to do this as well?

Cheers for you advice.

Did the original owner give you the warranty paperwork? With that & the transfer receipt you should be OK.

Unfortunately I understand ytfcmad's concerns, the warranty may not be worth £240.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
