Employer seems dodgy

So theres a corner shop looking for employees. I applied and offered the job. I was told I would not be paid for training as he cant afford to pay me for that. And i would get paid quicker if i learn fast. Im also expected to be in a shop on my own its a large off licence and as a young female would feel vulnerable on my own. I wont get holiday pay. I only get paid for 10 hours, I can work full time but anything more is paid out of his own pocket. Cash in hand. He has had no problems with this and has been doing this for 20 years. I walked out - surely this isnt right.

As dodgy as a dodgy thing. If you (and he) doesn't pay National insurance you wont get a state pension or health care.
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

Pension I'd agree with you why wouldn't the OP get health care?

Isn't there also a legal entitlement to paid holiday? I agree with the general sentiment that it's definitely not a good employer.

You've done the right thing in walking out. The door is shut.

No body gets rewarded for going against their gut instinct.

Had my holiday refused today for a month's time and I'll have worked somewhere for 4 months by that point but they seem very determined I'll never take holiday despite watching everyone in the department break holiday rules and going on such.

Cash in hand no questions asked shopwork. It's as illegal as driving at over 70mph on a motorway.

    It's also just as common.
