14 years as a nurse, now I want to work for myself. How do I get started?

I'm a registered mental health nurse with over 14 years experience. I am happy to do anything support wise. I just want to work at a gentler pace, one I set myself, and deliver good quality care. There are such staff shortages everywhere I can't deliver my best in an employed role.
Can anyone offer any advice, especially as to whether I can work as registered, and where I can find work? I know it's out there!!!

Being a one-(wo)man band isn't all it's cracked up to be. If a client has a crisis in the middle of the night, you're the one - the only one - on call. Professional indemnity insurance? Pricey, especially in your field.
Sounds as if you've been working in the public sector. Have you considered the private sector?
You clearly haven't a clue where to start in terms of running your own business, and if you are finding life stressful now, you might just be changing one sort of stress for another - which would be a real shame, given the much-needed skills you have. However, if you are sure that's the way you want to go, have a look at https://www.gov.uk/browse/business for lots of information. You might also contact your professional body and ask what information/help they can offer.0 -
I was an RMN until retirement through redundancy. One thing I would suggest is that you keep your registration up perhaps by working agency,
Have you any idea what work you would like to do for yourself?
Counselling would be one way of earning a decent income if you live in an affluent area.
Other options might well not pay as much as you wish particularly as you would have to sort out your own tax and pension provision
I did residential work and field social work at different stages of my career on the back of my registration.
These days you need to think long and hard about giving up a regular income.0 -
Go away and read about my profession before making sweeping statements derived from far too little information for you have possibly ascertained my knowledge levels, ability, aptitude or previous business experience. Anyone who posts as porolifically as yourself I cannot be knowledgeable on every subject.
Let me give you some good mental health advice. Go out and do something different for a while and maybe you can post something helpful and constructive and that will make you feel much better than just slating someones brief, to get started, post.0 -
Thanks, the sort of pondering I was hoping to stir up.0

What part of your mental health training showed you how to attack random strangers on the Internet because they didn’t give you the answer that you wanted?
Good luck in your endeavours. You clearly need it.0 -
Have you thought about looking at the situations vacant section of magazines like The Lady?0
