Ill health retirement nurse in nhs
Ladyfifi
I was diagnosed with a rare disorder 3 yrs ago and have had 10 operations a long way from home and have had quite a lot of sick time. I am really struggling with work, I am a senior nurse of 30 yrs.
There is no cure for my condition and want to consider ill health retirement but can’t find out just what I would take home approx on a monthly basis if this was granted. I joined the nhs on the old scheme prior to 1995. Can anyone advise me please

You have given us no information at all. I believe that the best thing to do is for you to obtain an estimate of your pension based on IHR from your pension provider or your employer. There are few websites talking about IHR such as https://www.bma.org.uk/advice/employment/pensions/ill-health-retirement so have a read. Hope it goes well.0

Hi, sorry that you are unwell and considering ill health retirement. I do not know your circumstances but HR generally have a member of staff clued up on pension advice that you could ask.
I would also suggest that you seek the help of a full time union rep. to argue your case as it is not always easy.
I took retirement through redundancy with 30 years service and had to give up part of my lump sum but would say pension is okay.0 -
You don't say how old you are, but I am guessing 50+ as a nurse in the 1995 scheme you probably have special class status which means you can take your 1995 pension unreduced age 55 or a reduced pension at age 50 without ill health. Have you accessed your online total rewards statement, as this will give you an estimated pension figure.
On the NHS pension site are various tables showing percentage reductions for taking your pension early from age 50 or earlier due to ill health which can be found with the aid of Google. As well as other information which will help you understand your pension better.
Alternatively ring /email NHS pensions with your questions as others have suggested.
Good luck as I believe from some of my NHS colleagues who have recently retired that NHS pensions is very slow.0
