Bank sent mortgage offer to the wrong solicitors. (Pursue further compensation?)

Has to be one of my most disliked neologisms.0 -
My lender returned my passport, bank statements and god knows what else to the wrong applicants. I got theirs. I had to send them back and they sent the right ones out again.
They contacted me about complaining/compensation and I just said 'don't worry about it, we're all human' but they seemed insistent on it being procedure and just a formality. They sent me £20/£30-odd (I forget) and I was over the moon. Went towards a takeaway that we wouldn't have had otherwise. I'm obviously easily pleased LOL.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -

sadly not everyone is as pragmatic as you. Some take the attitude how much we can fleece them for.
As with all things what goes around comes around"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Mortgages are sent out electronically to solicitors now s o it suggests the "panel number" of the acting solicitor may have been keyed in incorrectly. However, the solicitors name and address is almost always shown on the offer itself so someone should have noticed that was wrong!0

Whereas, as opposed to your viewpoint, if my personal identification documentation was sent to an unknown third party, who would have those documents as a reference and would know my name, date of birth, address and statement details, I would be absolutely livid.
With that, my chances of ID fraud have increased significantly. Products/services can be purchased under my name. I could theoretically open accounts. It's possible they would know my email address too from the email trail and I could bypass some companies' security questions... And this doesn't even face the fact that my personal rights have been breached under GDPR.
I would certainly want more than £30 in compensation, and that's nothing to do with 'fleecing' anyone. It has everything to do with my personal information being jeopardised and making a point that companies should have controls to prevent this incompetence.
I'm guessing this is all moot, though, as you won't be able to see this message from the dizzying heights of your high horse.0 -
I'm with sillyhilly.
I'd be bloody livid at my passport and bank statements being sent to the wrong individuals.
I'd be a damn sight more pragmatic at a mortgage offer being sent to the wrong solicitors - but furious at those solicitors and my broker for not noticing for a month... and at myself for not chasing.0 -
It was sent to another applicant who earned hell of a lot more than me and whose payslips and bank statements I got. Was a professional receiving a wage. Not saying they can't be dodgy, but it was literally a case of wrong items placed in wrong envelopes. (I think my passport was in there, but I don't think I had theirs.)
They may have been more worried about me however...
Certainly wasn't up on my high horse about it if that dig was at me.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
