To err is human; to forgive divine. £120 seems quite decent.

I find it hard to believe the lender made an error.
I very much doubt they'd have offered £120 compensation if they believed it wasn't their fault. It probably got stuffed into the wrong envelope.

As solicitors are regulated and are required to act with honour to their profession, even if a random solicitor was provided with your info, it is unlikely that the Financial Ombudsman Service or Information Commissioner would award large amounts of compensation for a one off act. Take the money.

I think you need to take some responsibility - although it seems like everyone is at fault.

If our customers use our solicitors, we have a tie in to their IT system so they send an update to say offer has been received. If we do not get that, we chase it up after a few days.

If the customer uses their own solicitors, we rarely chase them - unless there is something very wrong.

But that aside, why has nobody bothered to chase up the month delay. Obviously the initial error is the banks fault and they have compensated you for that and if a weeks delay had cost you a lot, then yet I would argue they are liable for that, but why have neither you nor the broker checked for an update in 4 weeks! I am fairly laid back, but 4 days I would chasing for an update.

of course they will. OP called them out on social media and banks love throwing inconvenience payments at people to make it go away. I worked in banking for nearly a decade and id guess that about 99% of the time I gave people money just to go away and avoid having to investigate something. More complaints that can be classed as non-reportable the better.

Last time I complained to my bank about my mortgage administration I think it was the grand sum of around £3.60 they gave me to cover the cost of telephone calls I had made to them.

I very nearly sent it back to them!
  • Just to play devils advocate here, compensation under GDPR is not limited solely to material losses. It could also extend to immaterial losses, such as stress or inconvenience.

Saying that, £120 to me seems to be fair. You'll be hard pushed into saying that this caused a month's delay.

Edit: ultimately, you can threaten to take the Bank to the Financial Ombudsman which automatically costs them about £800, so they may revise the offer...

£550 after the 25th complaint that goes to the ombudsman.

If they have offered an amount, it probably comes with a final response statement attached that basically means take it or go the ombudsman.

"Reaching out" always suggests to me some sort of inappropriate groping.
