Eeryone over 60 is eligible to claim winter fuel allowance, its just that at present men under 65 and over 60 who are not claiming certain benefits will not be listed on the apropriate computer systems and so wil not get an automatic claim for the first year, they need to complete a claim form . once they are recorded as claiming once, the details stay on record each year.
Providing he claims his pension he will receive it automatically when its due to be paid later in the year.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
he is not planning ot claim his state pension for another maybe 5 years when he is 70 as he feels he still needs to work (he has 2 other younger children). if he is therefore not claiming his state pension and delaying this (as you also get a bit more in your pension later if the state pension is delayed) can he still claim the winter fuel allowance?0

he can still claim from age 60, contact the winter fuel application line when it opens later in the year and they'll ensure that his name is entered on the correct system.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals.
