Java or Python course?

I was considering enrolling on a beginners programming course at the local college in either Java or Python.

Not that I use any programming for work purposes, but which do you think would be more beneficial to have, generally speaking, in a work environment.

That is, in case the course goes well and I consider doing a higher course I want to ensure I'm studying the more useful. I did type the word 'Java' into employment websites and it does bring up many more hits than 'Python'.

Thanks.

I would think that if you are into web, or web based products then java is your language. If you are into kodi, android, data science then more a python path

Many programmers have the ability and aptitude to work in multiple languages too a more or lesser extent, rather than one, and you will probably pick more up as you progress.

I am on the hardware side, but also have the ability to code somewhat, and very rusty in Visual C, python, pascal, modula2, basic, visual basic, css, and html

I delve into programming every now and then but it bores me.

I wold rather build something with my hands than sit there scrolling through lines of code looking for that typo... :)
