car insurance urgent advice

I am the policy holder. My wife thinks she may have scuffed the near side rear panel and bumper of a car whilst reversing out of her parking space. She left a note on the car asking the driver to contact her. The driver contacted her a few days later and left a voicemail. Unfortunately, my wife is elderly and very ill and didn't check her phone for a few days. She then contacted the driver but was only able to leave a voicemail as the other person works nights and is very difficult to get hold. To make things worse, our grandchildren have been very ill and this has kept us quite busy until now. To cut it short, it is now 3 weeks and the matter has not yet been resolved. I have not contacted my insurance as I was waiting for the driver to contact me to see if we could arrange for a repair privately. Your advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated because I have never been in this situation before. Many thanks.

    Hi,
Notify your insurer of the incident and explain the situation as you have here. Continue to contact the other party as you have been, perhaps leave them a message giving your insurance details.

thanks for your prompt reply. I have contacted the other driver via a text message and I'll wait for the reply before contacting my insurance.

It's your call on not informing your insurer - your policy will require you to inform them ASAP.

You breach your policy terms and conditions by not informing your insurer

When you are liable, then you are responsible for all the costs associated with the incident, not just the repair bill (eg hire car/loss of earnings etc)

If you want to keep your NCD then you can reimburse your insurer their outlay if it is cost effective to do so, and your NCD will be reinstated
