Black eye

Hello,
I’m currently working as a senior support worker.
Bit of an odd question but I thought we’re best to ask than the lovely people of moneysavingexpert :D

I have done a martial arts called Muay Thai for around a year and attending a normal sparring class on Friday i got clipped resulting in a black eye :( due to my manager on holiday I am attending a managers meeting on Monday with the area managers other managers etc and by the looks of my eye it isn’t going to go down by Monday.

Do I make up a story about this, be truthful or stay quiet and hope nobody says anything as I am STRESSING about this meeting, I’ve checked company policies etc and there are no policies around injuries/hobbies martial arts and states nothing in the code of conduct around this so I really do hope this cannot get me in trouble, what are your thoughts?

Thanks

You tell the truth. It's fine.
  • Why do you think it could "get me in trouble" in the first place?

Not sure Dazed, I work for a care company so the last thing I would want my bosses thinking is I’ve been in a street fight or done something which could jeopardise my position at the company or the companies reputation.

Plus I’m just a major over-thinker to be honest.

If you say nothing or make up a story, they'll assume you're a thug.

If you tell the truth, everyone will have a quick laugh and then forget it.

All the more reason to tell them the truth then! You'd be an idiot to make something up - that would be suspicious.

You certainly are over-thinking it. Just tell the truth; why on earth would you do anything else?
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Why on earth would you think making up a reason is a good idea, when you have a perfectly reasonable explanation for it?

Speaking of making up, though. If it isn't swollen there is always the option of make up if it would make you feel better.

nothing to lie about. When I did Krav Maga I would often attend meetings with all kinds of injuries.
