1 Company 2 different pay scales

I work for a company that provides a clinical service to the NHS. All the clinical staff are paid the equivalent wage to what they would be earning if they were working for the NHS eg, Doctors, Nurses OT's, Physios etc. All non clinical staff,eg Admin, Maintenance, Kitchen, Housekeeping are all paid on a completely different pay scale that is decided by the company and is considerably less than our counterparts in the NHS. Yet if we didn't do our jobs the clinical staff wouldn't be able to do theirs.
Staff retention in these areas is also a huge problem because people just come to us for the experience and then jump over to the NHS at the earliest opportunity.
I guess my question is is it legal to have 2 completely different pay scales in one company?

Yes - they're on clinical pay scales and the rest of you aren't.
Why don't you consider jumping ship to the NHS - I can recommend it.
EDIT: there's probably at least three scales as I suspect the doctors are on different scales from the other clinicians - they are (or were) in the NHS.0 -

It is legal and not uncommon, although the company needs to be careful about discrimination. If one of the pay scales is applied to jobs where most or all of the workers are male and the other to jobs where the workers are mostly or all female, they might be breaking the law.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

I know people that work for JLR, a heavily unionised workforce.
There are at least two different production operative contracts.
If you are Jaguar you get very slightly more in your hourly rate, less for weekday overtime, the same for Saturday OT and more for Sunday OT, plus £30 per week supplement, Solihull bank 1 hr a week which is either paid out in the Autumn or can be used for extra time off.
Jaguar contracts also get one less holiday per year.
This applies whichever plant you actually work at, so when people moved from Castle Brom to Solihull they have to stick with their current contracts, even if signing to make Solihull their "home" site.
All perfectly legal and allowed by the union.0
