Get a second job

I earn 36300 a year gross but feel i should be working more, would you get a second job? What are the benefits? is it worth it for an extra £100 a month?

Comments

  • Why do you think a 2nd job would only pay you £100 a month? I earn about the same as you but have another job that pays me £900 a month and has meant I’ve paid my mortgage off early, hard work but worth it.
  • That's really a decision only you can make.
Depends how desperate you are for cash.
    £100 before or after deductions?

    That's possibly commendable, but why?
would you get a second job?
Might depend on how many hours you currently work, how demanding it is, and whether you actually need more money or time out of the house ...
    What are the benefits?
More money, obviously. Possibly an opportunity to widen your social life, although that's not what many of us go to work for, and you may not then have TIME for a social life. Possibly a chance to try out an alternative line of work to see if you like it better.

But you haven't talked at all about the disadvantages! No time for a social life. Demands from two employers, sometimes conflicting. Difficult to find another job which fits around your existing one. Exhaustion etc.
is it worth it for an extra £100 a month?
Who knows? What matters to you?

If you regularly find you have more month than money, then either getting another job or getting a better paid one is an obvious option. As is reducing expenditure. But if you have time on your hands, or don't feel adequately stimulated by your job, have you thought about volunteering in your non-work time?

If you feel like you need more money and you have time then go for it. What work were you thinking? I do freelance transcription as an extra bit of work and I make an extra £100ish a month on average. Can be very helpful. It does mean I have to do a self assessment and keep some of my income from it by for the tax bill!
