buying an overseas property with pensions fund

Does anyone know whether this is still possible or whether our wonderful government has stopped yet another thing that might actually be of use to us!?
Thanks for your help.

It hasnt been possible apart from a possibly contested option which would be risky to use and commercial property.

Why do you believe it would be of use?

  • simply because most of our pension funds have been lost over the past couple of years, so a property that we will actually get use of makes more sense, and is probably a safer bet!

Ahh, so you can lose more money in European property instead. Good call ;)

How have you managed to lose money on your pension funds in the past couple of years when we have have gone through 5 years of fairly sustained growth? You must be making some really poor investment decisions.

  • I'm glad to see your such a good FSA.
So it hasnt reached your ears yet that millions of people lost a large percentage of the money in their pension funds over the past years?
You didnt hear any of that? I'm glad I'm not a client of yours!
  • Like Dunstonh I too would love to know what funds you have had your pension invested in over last 5 year to have lost money.

I have no connection with the financial services authority apart from the fact I am authorised and regulated by them.

No. Obviously losses occured during the previous stockmarket crash but the last 5-6 years have seen very good performance in nearly every asset class.

Pensions dont make or lose money. Its where you invest the funds within your pension that does that. If you are not happy with the investment funds you are in then you change them. Either by switching funds or moving the pension to a provider that offers the funds that you want to invest in.
