Insurance on a bus journey

Hi all,

Curious about my rights here - I took a bus a few years ago and some of my hold luggage was lost. I think another passenger stole it.

I reported it to the bus company and they told me they could not do anything for me.

I then found out recently, which is basically two years later, that I took out optional insurance on the reservation when it was booked.

Should the bus company have checked this and told me?

The bus company do not own the insurers probably and were probably just an intermediary.

As you agreed to the price and the optional cover, you could have used the insurance. It's been a while now, have you got a police report? specific inventory and receipts e.t.c?

    No harm in trying

    Hi,

So the insurer told me I was out of time after the first week - I had to report to them in this time.

So I am curious as to whether the carrier should have mentioned this optional insurance to me when I reported the missing items in this first week? Ae they liable for not mentioning the insurance to me?

Why would they be responsible for telling you you had insurance?

Would they even know if you had opted to take it out?.

If you paid for insurance it is your responsibility to understand it and to claim from the insurers if necessary/possible.

What was the bus company, where was the journey?

Be careful. Even if claim is met, they may seek a contribution from other relevant policies (i.e your Household Insurance).

    Might affect future Household premiums?
