Overseas credit card

Hi all.
Just after some advice please.

I'm looking for the best credit card for spending in the USA.
I only work part-time so my yearly income is probably around the £7000 mark. Husband is the main wage earner/bill payer.
I'm getting confused with it all now.
Can anyone recommend a card which will fit the bill? That I would qualify for? I'd like a 0% term in which to pay it off if possible.
I haven't had a credit card for over 10 years. Not sure if this will affect my credit score? No debts etc other than mortgage.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

  • Something like Clarity will do the trick. You want a card with no forex.

However, you won't get one with a 0% offer, so choose between the two.

With a thin file and a low income, you may struggle to get anything decent however Try an eligibility checker. It may be more appropriate for your husband to apply.

    none.

'travel credit card' will have interest fee.

0% purchase credit card will charge you oversea transaction fee.

Since you work at part time, I don't know which 'travel credit card' would accept your application.
try the Eligibility Calculator before you apply

I suggest you look into app base Starling bank current account to start with. Their debit card do not charge non-sterling transaction or cash withdrawal fees worldwide.
  • If the husband took out a suitable card could this lady not be an additional holder ?

This card would be ideal for their purposes.

Post Office Platinum offers no fees on foreign purchases and 0% for 8 months. Charges for cash, though.

Whatever you do, take multiple cards between the pair of you. Cards are more prone to failure overseas. Paying a fee is better than having no access to money at all.

Crikey, just noticed that the 0% offer on the Post Office Platinum credit card is now down to 8 months.

It was 28 months at 0% when I applied for mine only a couple of months ago.

That is some drop in the length of the offer! At least it remain free of overseas charges on purchases.

I also notice that Virgin Money are no longer offering their Travel Credit Card which also came with a 0% on purchases offer for a year as well as no overseas charges on purchases (plus access to the 'Virgin Moneyback' rewards scheme). I got one of these as well a few months ago.

Looks like free overseas useage tied with a 0% offer maybe becoming a thing of the past.

When I got my PO card, I only got 3 months on purchases! It was a few years ago (?5 or so).
