20 year old Barclaycard debt

Good evening, long story short..
Recently bought a house, have an excellent credit rating (according to Experian) and now am looking at shifting a balance off a Capital one card onto a 0% jobbie.
Now on my Experian account I've been pre-approved for a Barclaycard.
Now when I was younger and (more) stupid, I believe I had a debt with them on a previous card.
This has to be at least 20 years ago, now in that time I've not hid, been on the Electoral roll at at least 3 different properties.
I honestly can't recall hearing from them at all, certainly can't recall having a ccj from this either.
Now what's the likelihood of them still having anything about this on file, and being able to link it to me now?

Thanks.

Just to be on the safe side it would be better to apply for a card elsewhere; there are credit cards other than Barclaycard. With your excellent credit rating you should have no difficulty obtaining a 0% balance transfer card from a different provider.

If you get the card, you get the card and if you get turned down you get turned down. Sometimes you get turned down and there seems no obvious reason.

If the debt ever re-emerges it is likely to be through a bottom end debt buyer and would be statute barred and unenforceable. It's not worth thinking about.

OP have you since had success in re applying with b.c.
Finding it difficult how a debt could be avoided for a number of years.

  • Just because it’s statute barred doesn’t mean they can’t ask for the money still - it just means they cannot go via the courts.

Should they still have a record of it they could collect on it by “set-off”.

I unfortunately defaulted on a barcycard in 2009 and they gave me a card 8 years later. No questions asked. I guess the only way you would know is if you apply.

Thanks maybe there could become a time when sc dmp defaults fully drop off and some time is left before re applying.
Though being my highest debt and one of the last to be cleared, I'm honestly looking beyond 2022/2023.
I hope I reach that day when eligibility checkers favour 0 percent deals.

  • An institution can keep you “blacklisted” for as long as they wish.

I was accepted for a barcycard initial with defaults. I later opened A platinum travel card and consolidated the limits and got rid of the original card. The current limit is £6k they haven’t increased it any further but I’ve not asked either.
  • Thanks to you all.
I only asked about the Barclaycard as it had pre-approval. Thought it may be easier to get that than apply elsewhere.

    Happy Easter.

Now on my Experian account I've been pre-approved for a Barclaycard.
    .
Pre-approved by who? Experian? How can Experian have any knowledge of your previous history with Barclaycard 20 years ago? How can Barclaycard have pre-approved you for anything if you have not provided them with additional details (employment status, salary, residential status etc) not known to Experian?
