Car insurance claim - not at fault. What am I entitled to?

A year ago someone went into the back of my car. My insurance company have finally concluded I was not at fault, and have contacted me to say I will a receive a refund of my excess payment. Since the accident, my insurance premium went up as a result. My question is - can I ask them to recalculate this years premium, factoring in me not being at fault, and the difference refunded accordingly?

You can ask, but even a non-fault claim results in an increased premium so there may not actually be any difference.

A claim being concluded "not at fault" doesn't refer to "blame"

Your insurer has now received full reimbursement for their (and yours too it seems as they are refunding your excess) outlay over your claim.

This makes it a "non fault" claim which means no cost to your insurer

Non fault claims like this usually do affect premiums

But if you also (temporarily) had your NCD reduced following the claim and this has now been reinstated, then your premium will have been increased due to the reduction in NCD, and now that has been reinstated then a premium adjustment should be made
