Protecting my holiday

My wife and I have just booked our summer holiday, and are looking for the best way to protect it. We are flying from the UK, to Dubai for 10 nights, then back home to the UK. However, we havent booked through a travel agent, instead we have booked the flights via SkyScanner and our hotel via booking.com.
What is the best way to protect our holiday, in the event we are unable to fly? I.e illness or injury, flight cancellation etc..
Any help would be much appreciated.

Travel insurance that includes consequential loss? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Where you bought your flights or accommodation from is irrelevant when taking out travel insurance
You needed cover as soon as you booked. You can get knocked over by a bus at any time!0 -

Exactly, which is why I am looking for cover right now. We just booked this morning. My question is, what kind of cover do I need, as my flights and hotel booking are not ATOL protected, which is why where I booked them from is relevant.
However, I think elsien has answered the question, comprehensive travel insurance which covers consequental loss.0 -
It's irrelevant as far as travel insurers are concerned! They aren't interested in who sold the holiday!
See the MSE guide to travel insurance (link at the top of the page amongst quick links)
As far as the possibility of insolvency of the airline/hotel, then assuming you paid by credit card then s75 will cover that!0
