Home emergencies insurance needed?

A friend of mine had a pipe leak from the bathroom above, and next thing she knows, there's a hole in her kitchen ceiling and water is coming through. It was expensive to repair.

It got me thinking.... is there insurance against home emergencies such as this?

I own a top floor flat and I don't think my basic contents insurance covers this.

BTW - the managing agents (to whom I pay my service charge) have buildings contents insurance, but it is not clear if this sort of thing is covered.

Thanks.

Most policies cover Escape of Water, which is what you have described. Check your documents and/or ask the managing agents.

Home Emergency cover is for blocked toilets and broken boilers etc and is often not worth the money it costs.

The best thing you can do is save the money you would pay them each month and make sure you have the basic tools and knowledge to do basic tasks such as unblocking a toilet, fixing the flush, changing a tap.
If something happens you can then use the money to pay for a trades person to come out if it's something you can't fix yourself.

Buildings and/or Contents insurance covers this, although you might need to have the Accidental Cover option to cover damage.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
