Holiday cancelation

My wife and Son and I are travelling to America on the 31st July this year. It`s all been booked and paid for in December 2018. I have travel insurance through my Halifax Ultimate Reward account.
However my father has been diagnosed with a very aggressive terminal cancer with a very poor prognosis. This means it will no longer possible to travel at this time, due to ongoing care and hospital appointments.
I have checked the policy handbook to see if we are covered if we cancel, but its quite vague. Has anyone experienced this situation before and where do we stand.

Cancelling due to the illness of a close relative is usually covered by travel insurance
Though not if the illness was already existing at the inception of the policy. Check out your policy wording to see what's covered (and ask the insurer to clarify any vague points)
If you do need to cancel the then all you can do is put a claim in and take it from their response0 -
Many thanks for the reply, I would like as much information as possible before I call them..Many thanks0
