Jobbing builders warrantee insurance

Hi MSE
We've all probably heard horror stories of shoddy workmanship, rip offs and failure to rectify with the CAB saying go to the small claims court yada yada. Has anyone ever heard of a scheme, common in the commercial world, of an insurance backed performance bond. Example - you call in a Roofer (they are the worst IMHO) - who quotes a price which, after due diligence, you decide to take up and then you feel the need for some warrantee backed by an insurance company should work be seriously deficient - ie the roof leaked - and the contractor fails to come and rectify his faulty work. I hope you follow my drift
Anyone know of such a scheme:(
Robin

Yes, due diligence to ensure the contractor is insured and that you have obtained his insurance details before work starts and payment is made.

Going with "jobbing builders" is asking for trouble.

This only covers the obligatory personal liability 3rd cover which every builder must have by law (normally £5 mill)
