Insurance claim - advice please!

Hi,
Firstly please accept my apologies if I am posting in the wrong forum.
I would really benefit from some advice regarding an insurance claim we are looking to put in.
In 2009 we had a leak in the bathroom caused by a faulty washer on the bath tap which caused water to leak through the floorboards and drip through the lounge ceiling, My Dad was a builder and one of his plumber contacts fixed the washer for us. My Dad had to drill a couple of holes in the ceiling to release the water and then filled these in and repainted the ceiling. There was no need to claim for damages via our home insurance as damage appeared to be minimal.
Over the last few months we have noticed a crack in the lounge ceiling and the ceiling appears to be bowing slightly - obviously the damage caused by the initial leak is getting worse.
My question is - would our home insurance company accept this claim as it is a number of years since the initial damage but the problem is now much worse. We are with a different home insurance company than the one we were with back then so not sure if this is an issue also?
Any advice gratefully received
Thanks in advance.

In my experience they won't cover you if it's an on going problem that you knew about. It has to be a recent sudden escape of water like a burst pipe or flood from an appliance or something like that.0

better get some experts to look at this asap, if your whole ceiling collapses...."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
