HTB timeline when selling existing property

I currently have a property (in Scotland) that’s not yet on the market, but could be sold pretty quickly when ready. I’m thinking of buying a new property using the London help to buy scheme. I’m a bit confused on whether I am able to reserve the new property until the old one has been sold or not, I think I had seen something saying I couldn’t reserve until that one had been sold but not sure where that was now.

No builder I know of will accept a reservation from someone not in a proceedable position.
As far as HTB is concerned, all our cases have had existing property 'SSTC'.I am a mortgage broker.
