Informing new insurers of an accident before policy commences

Hi all,
I've had a search through this board and haven't been able to find anything similar. My car insurance renewal quote came through a few weeks ago. As Direct Line (my current provider) were offering a poor price, I switched to Admiral. The policy expiration/commencement date is in about a week's time.
Today, someone bumped into the back of my car whilst one of my named drivers was driving. It was a very small bump and, upon closer expectation, the only damage appears to be a tiny crack on my reverse light.
This will almost certainly be settled privately but I do have a question. My policy with Admiral obviously hasn't started yet but it has already been paid for in full. If I were to inform them of this minor incident, would they have any right to ask me to pay more? Or is this only something they could try to do at renewal next year?

In short, yes you should tell them, yes they can charge you more.
I paid £50 more when it happened to me last year.0 -
Cheers, Zorillo. Somehow managed to miss that thread. Guess I'll have to give them a call and hope they don't try and charge me too much.
If they do take the mick and try adding on a ridiculous amount, would this change in circumstances before the policy starts allow me to cancel it and get my money back? I'm beyond the normal 14 day cooling off period.
ETA: Or, another thought. It was my mum who was the named driver involved today. Whilst she's named on my policy, her own insurance permits her to drive third-party cars. Were this to go through insurers, would she be able to make a no-fault claim on her own policy, not mine? I'd still need to inform Admiral of the change to her circumstances of course, but I wonder if this might be better (ie. cheaper) to do this rather than declaring a no-claim accident on my own policy?0 -
Your named drivers DOC car cover cannot be used as she is covered by your policy!
(Were she not a named driver on your policy, her DOC cover wouldn't pay out for damage to your car anyway)0
