DD taken from my account for someone else

Hi there

I have just discovered that my life insurance co has taken a direct debit payment three times. The second two DDs were in respect of people unconnected to me. The ins co is refunding the money to me.
My issue is that one of the new DDs was set up when I logged into my bank account.
I don't believe that a new DD can be set up without my consent and, if not, is the ins co at fault or the bank?
Thanks!

Could be either, or it could be the other customers.

Either way, it doesn't really matter. Ask them to return the funds.

Inform your bank these direct debit payments do not belong to you and ask them to refund under the DD guarantee.

The insurer is unlikely to be able to help as they wont know who they belong to until the bank tells them they have been unpaid.

If you have online access then cancel the rogue DD

If not then tell your bank they or the merchant have wrongly applied it to your account and ask them to cancel it

(The DD guarantee mentioned above won't help get this error corrected)
