could you offer to car share, is there anyone who travels the same way. that way you could split the fareThe sign of a wasted life is a tidy house, Welcome to the chaos!0

You're living at home for medical reasons? Have you applied for DLA? It isn't money but they may be able to pay towards travel if it is a problem for you. Contact your LEANo longer using this account for new posts from 20130

I would still apply - I had a car in my third year I mostly used to travel to volunteer work placement, and they still paid me £1250 Doesn't hurt to try!0

Hi
I dont know if things have changed since I went to ubi as I left in 2001, but I worked for the Advice Centre at Hull Uni, it was situated in the Student Union - first port of call would be there. They have all the latest information of grants and loans and where to go to get the Hardship fund. They are fully trained and are really good.0 -
Surely the Uni has a Student Services/Welfare Office? I would think that is where you should start.0

they're usually in the main student advice part of the union.
i wandered into mine and it was one of the best things i ever did, only wish i'd done it sooner!
having said that, when i got hardship money (granted this was a good few years ago) i had to first apply for and use a hardship loan, which is an extension of your SL, it was an extra £500 at the time i think...Trying to be good, not always succeeding. :A:beer:0 -
have a look at the access to learning thread a bit further down this page - lots of help there:happyhear0

I would enquire with your LEA about Disabled Students Allowance - It would depend on your medical problem and situation what help you might be able to get though (and they provide support/equipment/ occasionally travel help rather than money).
Also if you apply for and get Disability Living Allowance from jobcentreplus and you currently qualify for maintenance grant you could apply for special support grant - this replaces maintenance grant and is the same amount but doesn't reduce your maintenance loan (complicated I know!).
Also is public transport an option/cheaper?0
