If you have ongoing issues with self-harm then obtaining a medically underwritten life insurance plan for the next few years is likely to be difficult, if not impossible. Generally, even the most lenient insurers want to wait at least 3-years since there has been any suicidal ideation of episodes of self-harm and may then still decline to offer cover if there has been multiple episodes over an extended period.
You could look at obtaining a guaranteed acceptance plan. These normally have certain caveats in them, such as not covering death due to natural causes for the first 24-months and potentially always excluding death due to war, suicide, nuclear, chemical or biological contamination but this differs from plan to plan. The level of cover which can be arranged with this type of plan is normally fairly limited up to about a max of £50,000 or less in some cases.
trying google "guaranteed acceptance life insurance" and then also add "smart money" or "unison protect" and that should point you in 2 directions.0 -
Errr.....just because someone self-harms and has depression does not mean they are contemplating suicide or have ever contemplated suicide.
I would suggest checking the following link which may be of help to you https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/guides-to-support-and-services/insurance-cover-and-mental-health/Welcome, rogerramjet.

I was refused life insurance due to suicidal ideation about 3 years before applying. I left it a year and applied again and was accepted but at double the cost my hubby pays. Thinking of reviewing it to lower the cost as yet more time had passed and health has been fine.0

Maybe not but I think you'll find insurers underwriting philosophy will generally put self-harm and suicidal ideation within the same bracket...............or do you have some experience with insurance underwriting which is contrary to this?0
