Airport Travel with a Metal Joint?

I'm looking for some help, my dad has just had a hip resurfacing and as a result has a titanium and chrome joint in his hip. He likes to take short breaks away and has been advised that he may get difficulty at airports outside the uk to get through the metal detectors.
He has been told that the NHS do not provide a card but there is one available from another organisation that will explain what he's had done.
Does anyone know where I can get said card . Tried a google search and i'm getting no joy!
All help greatly appreciated.

hello my dads had the same hip replacement and my mum has had a knee replacement, every time they go through the scanner it goes off and they get searched, they tell them about there operations and it makes no difference as if they didnt search them they would not be doing there job properly. All in all it takes an extra 5 mins so nothing to worry about.0

My husbands had a knee replacement for over 10 years
Yes it does set the alarm off and sometimes he even tells them what it is but most times he hadnt used to tell them but know with the extra security he does tell them and its never been a problem.
You could always get your dad to get a letter from either the GP or consultant
I dont know of a card but there is a medicalert system http://www.medicalert.org.uk/ but its mainly used for illness's or allergies were the user could become ill
You could look into that?
Unless hes going to really far flong places he wont have a problem.
We have done Caribbean, Indian Ocean and most of europe since my husbands had hisIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
He saw his consultant today and it was him that mentioned something about a card he'd heard of but didn't give exact details as to where as he wasnt' sure about it. I'm sure he'll be fine but it was a precaution really so that he'd feel better about it.Thankyou to all the posters of competitions :beer:0
