Can insurance be traced from an address?

My car was hit while parked, and the driver left their name and number, but stopped returning my calls when I said that it would cost over £1000 to repair. My insurance company say there isn't much that they can do to trace her, but I have now obtained her address as well as mobile phone number. Can I pressurise the insurance company to find her and claim from her insurance? They seem to think that they can't do anything unless I have the registration number.

You could visit the address and look for the damaged car parked outside it?

Phone her up and say she has won the lottery and you need to confirm her name and address. :)

  • Thanks all. I think a late trip to the address might be the next step, just to make sure the car is actually there. Bit of a rubbish database if they can only search by Registration number.

There could be multiple cars at an address all covered by completely separate insurance policies. Which car is the one you want in this scenario? This is why you need a registration number to specify exactly which vehicle you are interested in.

Not really. They are only interested in the insurance holder for a vehicle and the way to find that is using the VRN.
