Phone selling warning...

I had an iphone 8 + that I bought via Apple upgrade plan. The phone was replaced for a new one in Feb as it was faulty and had a new screen in August.
As I worked out I could get a new iphone via a full contract and pay less than I was paying Apple. I settled the outstanding balance.
I used Martin's guide to sell my phone using a company I have used to sell stuff to before (and even bought my son's phone in the summer) I was offered on their website £360 so I packed up the phone (taking photos with their paperwork prior to packing up).Three days later I had email confirmation to confirm receipt then a few hours later an email saying .. not as decribed! I read the email and they said the phone was in poor condition so were only offering me £210! I was very shocked. I called them and asked how this was possible and was not given much info. They sent through photos showing 2 'scratches' on the screen which were not there when I sent it.
I requested the phones return which they did. There were 2 new scratches which were not significant but noticiable. I did send a further complaint to the company..
I took my phone to CEX.. who were very nice. Because of the scratches my phone was graded a B and they offered me £327 which I accepted and have now had confirmed by email.
I have notified the other company who have not replied. I just would like people to be aware that this company (name is apt .. named after a bird who who goes after others belongings...) tried to rip me off over £100..

I'm trying to figure out what this wonderful deal is that you got a brand new iPhone and a contract less than what you were paying Apple?
You do know the apple upgrade program is for 20 months so you would have owned the phone outright after 20 months of paying around £44 per month plus got another extra 4 months on top of that for another screen replacement.
What your saying is you got a brand new phone and data for under £44 per month. Is this contract over 20 months because I'm thinking you will be paying a lot more as contracts are mostly 24-36 months?
Also what extra cover have you taken out in the event of screen damage because I assume the screen you got replaced in August was from a result of damage which Apple care covers (with fee)
I agree with many others on this site that the cheapest way to own a phone is to buy it outright or (0% apr loan) and get data separately. Also Apple care is a benefit if you have a history of damaging a phone within a 2 year period.
As for the company ripping you off why can't you mention their name. I can only assume you have no factual evidence to prove otherwise so your scared that accusing someone of ripping you off will result in action been taking against you?
I would say they did not rip you off as I assume all these companies have to look at the phone first before agreeing a price. Just because they did not offer you what you wanted is entirely up to them and your free to take your business elsewhere. I assume this company will be out of business soon enough if people don't get a price that they were expecting on their phones. But then again you were happy to use this company up until now so they must be doing something right.0 -
