Xiaomi Mi 4S - updates not available - MIUI 7.3.1 stable

Hi

I have a Xiaomi MI 4S phone.

It currently runs MIUI Global 7.3.1 Stable

I think that now MIUI is on something like version 10 but when I try to install updates I just get a message saying that no updates are available.

Googling around suggests this is because the phone wasn't issued for the UK market. Is there an easy way I can install the updates without damaging the phone?!

ALSO, the UK is not shown in the region options list - will this be a problem for using any functions in the UK?

I've currently set it to Morocco as that is the same time as the UK!

It seems that "Global ROM for Xiaomi Mi4S hasn’t been released, and probably will never be."
It seems that China Stable ROM and some Custom Roms are available for Mi4S.

The device I have is Mi4S and it says its running MIUI Global 7.3 Stable 7.3.1.0.0,

So I'm confused as to whether this is the Chinese or the global?

Also confused as to why it says "no updates available" when there clearly are plenty of updates, MIUI is now on MIUI 10.

As I bought this phone secondhand do you think there is something wrong with it?

How easy would it be for me to download one of the updates - I'm not technical.

If I just don't update the phone will anything stop working/ does it actually matter?

Updates are released by supplier for the phone model .
However its up to them when and if it applies to your model .
MIUI 10 may not be released for your phone model or even work on it .


Stuff stops working maybe in time who knows .

If you have to ask then the answer is no.
Any rom flashing needs 100% understanding or accept you may brick the phone .

Go to Settings>System>About Phone and tell us what the 'Model Name' is.

If you use any of the links given above and download version 10 rom you should be able to put it on your phones SD card and then try an update from there. Worst case scenario is it tells you it's not compatible.
