E:30/11 Win 1 Of 3 Copies Of The Nativity Story

‘Maybe the stars pulsed overhead, and the planets spun like Catherine wheels, and the moon grinned hugely, and the constellations turned handsprings around the sky. Or maybe that is how it always feels when a baby is born…’

This breath-taking retelling of the Nativity story, which has been published to a wealth of high acclaim, combines stirringly lyrical prose from three times Whitbread award winner Geraldine McCaughrean with stunningly beautiful illustrations from Sophy Williams.

Evoking both the earthly reality of the birth of Jesus as well as the wonder of brightest heaven, Geraldine delves into the hearts of the characters, adding touches of warmth and real human emotion to the familiar story.

Sophy William’s full-page illustrations are inset throughout the book. The reproduction retains the wonder of her original artwork, with the impressions of the dusky pastel marks shining through, showing her skill as a fine-artist. The richness of colour used conjures up the bright glow of the angels’ appearances, the intimacy of the stable and the hot desert lands, and perfectly complements Geraldine’s powerful text.

This handsome dust-jacketed hardback will be a family Christmas classic that is returned to year after year.

GERALDINE McCAUGHREAN has written more than a hundred books for children of all ages and has received numerous accolades for her books, including those won by her brilliant sequel to J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, Peter Pan in Scarlet, which was commissioned by Great Ormond Street Hospital. The Nativity Story continues Geraldine’s association with Great Ormond Street, with the dedication having been auctioned in support of the charity in remembrance of the children who have been cared for there. Geraldine lives in Berkshire.

SOPHY WILLIAMS is a highly sought after illustrator of children’s books, using soft pastels to create pictures that are filled with atmosphere and drama. She has worked with a number of well-known authors, including Jill Paton Walsh and the Children’s Laureate, Michael Rosen. She lives in Wiltshire.
