Rear ended

Today I parked in a legal parking bay near a shop, I popped in for thirty seconds to drop off a shuttle parcel. When I came out I noticed my car had been rear ended, the driver was still there as I’d literally be thirty seconds. I saw him and he said, his foot slipped and the brakes failed on time and he smashed into the back of me... accident he claimed,
He provided me his insurance details and I’ve got my car booked in for repairs and a courtesy car scheduled. All for next week as this was today. My car is a lovely yellow Renault twingo
Twingo, my question is will my annual premiums be hugely affected by this fault that wasn’t mine? And do you think the repairs will be good enough to have a like for like with body work repairs? I have used the Garage etc all organised by the insurance.

Your current insurer may try it on when renewal is due, if so shop around.

If its a rear engined Twingo damage could be more than bodywork. Was it fast enough to potentially damage engine, gearbox and drive shafts?

Eek, I am not sure, I managed to drive home. But who knows if it has damaged my engine. It was hard enough to smash my boot in so the number plate lights are broken and the boot clip. I will soon find out when it goes into the garage, hopefully i will hear when that will be today. I always do compare insurances at renewal, I just wondered if it was s universal knock up in premiums, despite not being my fault.

You'll have to declare it when you're searching for a new policy, but it may have little effect. All you can do is try some dummy quotes with and without the accident declared to see what premium increase is attributed to it, but don't be tempted to not declare it.

Thank you , that is a great idea to do a few dummy quotes, but of course I will declare it, it is not worth taking the risks. It is so annoying how I am punished when I literally was at no fault at all. The guy literally pulled into the parking bay behind me and could not stop so just whacked into the back of me, grrr

    What age Twingo?

First shape (never officially imported) and second shape were both front engined. The current third shape (2014-on) is rear.

If the boot floor is bent, then it's almost certain they'll just write it off. If it's an older-shape one, it'll quite probably be written off for the cosmetics alone, simply because of value.

It is a 2016 reg Renault twingo , rear engined, I wish I could upload a picture. It has got s back indent and the boot pop up clip can not be pushed as it is broken. But it is not totally smashed up, he never hit it at high speed. I managed to drive home, i thinkkkkmit can be repaired as it’s more body work that is broken, no smashed glass l but I am no expert. Hearing what you said is worrying mmmm

The hatch itself is all glass externally on those, isn't it? And it's not broken?

If not, then it seems safe to say that unable to open the boot is definitely going to be slam panel/boot floor damage. Cat S write-off.

Not sure if the link works of the similar car I have . Anyway, thank you so much for your advice. I’ll cross fingers in hope it’s easy to repair. The glass is not broken. The little boot pop sits under the boot glass and above the number plate

The rear engined Twingo doesn't have a boot floor, there is an engine in the way. All it has a removable panel to allow access to check levels.

A low speed hit has probably just crushed the cross member behind the bumper.
