Working tax credits then Child tax credit claim forces move to UC

Hi, When a friend gives birth (she is on working tax credits) if she claims child tax credits or child benefit is she then automatically switched to Universal Credit and a 5 week wait?

if she is already on working tax credits and the household becomes responsible for their first child then she can continue on tax credits or claim Universal Credit if they would be better off.
