Critical illness cover

I currently have a joint life insurance and critical illness cover with my partner but due to relationship breakdown I want to get my own cover.

I will have a mortgage to cover. I have no other debts (other than student loan). I have death in service of 4 x salary that would cover my mortgage.

Is it possible to get stand alone critical illness cover? I've struggled to find any.

Yes it is. However, there is usually only pennies difference between Life & CIC vs CIC only.

Do remember not to buy CIC based on premium. There can be a big difference in the coverage between providers and often not a lot of cost difference.

Also, it may be worth considering income protection. What if you are long term sick but it isn't a critical illness? *Proper* income protection would cover loss of earnings until you return to work, reach retirement or die so can protect your standard of living to a much greater degree than critical illness cover.
