Backing up photos and video to Google Photos
Hi
I have a Samsung J3 and backup my photos and video to Google photos. It looks like I still have 79 mb of photo and 497mb of video files showing on my phones memory. I can see photos and video showing in my gallery as well. I use whats app but this should not have any effect on my backup settings. If the photos and video are backed up and deleted by Google photos then why do i still have mixed media files on my phone? Can I delete them ? Any help is much appreciated.

The clue is in the word 'back up'. Which means more than one copy.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

However, I seem to remember reading somewhere that this only removes things which are over 30 days old.0 -
Google Photos doesn't delete photos, you have to do it if you want rid of them.
Once you have backed them up (or it does it automatically if set up that way) you can delete them and they will remain backed up.
The photos and videos you are seeing on the phone might not be from your main photos folder, they could be from whatsapp or downloads or facebook or wherever, and you would need to back them up as well.
If you do delete the originals the only place where your photos will be stored is online on google photos, so you are trusting them to keep them safe.
If space on the phone is an issue you can buy a memory card for the phone (around £35 for 128GB) and keep the files on there so they are on the phone and online in the event of one or other failing.0
