I was wondering for my credit score to improve I was advised to get the Link financial debt cleared.. however when I checked on Noodle I have actually been paying £10 per month since 2004 and it is still showing on my credit score. Do they not drop off after 6years? If not could I offer a F&F settlement debt still owed is £1750
original debt was on a Barclaycard I defaulted.

Hi Lexi-Lisa
A debt will removed from your credit file 6 years after the date the default was registered. Or if no default was registered, it will be removed 6 years after the date the account was closed. You mention that you defaulted on the Barclaycard debt, but did Barclaycard or Link Financial ever register a default on your credit file? If they didn't, it will explain why the debt is still showing.
If you have a lump sum of money available to make a F&F settlement that could be an option for you. You can find out more on how to make your offer here https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/factsheets/Pages/fullandfinalsettlementoffers/lumpsumoffers.aspx. If successful your credit file will show the debt has been partially settled and the debt will be removed 6 years later (assuming there is no default registered).
Best wishes
Susie

Noting NDL advice -so have you been paying them £10 per month since 2004? If so I would write to them to complain that they've not defaulted you sooner and try and get the default backdated. Jan15 (a forum member) is probably best placed to advise, but if it were me I'd stop paying them anything until they backdate the default. Or offer as little as 10% as an F&F. The only issue with that is even if agreed the negative score for that debt will remain on your file for another 6 years.
I chased down a default on a Halifax debt after it had been 'paid' via my DMP because the default had been registered a full year + after the start of my DMP. I finally got it wiped from my credit file - also to note the debt had by then be 'sold' to Westcott.0
