Nightmare Current Account Switch

Decided to switch from Natwest to Nationwide using refer a friend so £100 each.
Started the switch online and it "failed" but I got an email so I contacted Nationwide to be told that something had gone wrong so try again.
I tried a 2nd time and same thing happened so tried a 3rd time and worked perfectly. However, I had received 2 emails but thought nothing of it.
I went in branch with proof of ID following a text to say that my ID had been checked but I still needed to sign the T&C. My details could not be located as such, but my ID was sorted. Apparently I had 2 customer numbers and it had confused the system. Got a letter in post to sign and hand in to branch which I did. The letter had a sort code, account number and customer ID. Thought no more of it.
A second letter came for a second account with different account number & customer ID.
Had email confirming details, but that has yet another customer ID on it so that is 3 different customer ID.
Tried registering online and kept saying there was an error. Tried again today and apparantly I have already registered
A pin number for a card arrived today so wonder what card will turn up?
Gonna wait and see what I receive over next few days but apparantly the switch is progressing.

Based on my experience I would not use the online system again

I've used the online system to switch to Nationwide for the refer a friend bonus and it worked very smoothly. No problems at all.
  • Ok thanks

Although hundreds of thousands have switched with no issues.

Same here. Done it many times and there was never any problem. It appears that the OP was particularly unlucky due to having 2 Nationwide customer numbers. I wonder whether Bravebaldrick acquired his second customer number by declaring he was a new customer when he wasn't?
