HSBC Overdraft Charges SECOND COMING!! WHY!

[STRIKE]This time I have received more interest charges for my account and I have not done anything to incur these charges. Even though I paid off the last interest charges, they are STILL coming after me for more!! Even though I haven't used the account in months hoping one day it'll close, just disappear.... and I won't have to deal with them any more, I am still being charged. But what for?? I have no prearrange overdraft limit and I've not gone overdrawn since then. I just do not use it at all. What can be done about this folks??[/STRIKE]

=EDIT=

I've just found out that dormant accounts will get charged for being inactive and payments must be made within 14 days from notice. It goes on to say;

"If payment is not received within this time your account may be closed. However, you will remain liable to repay the outstanding balance."

Tempting. However, I really don't want to fork out any more of my money. I have attempted to close my account before by sending off a form. Nothing was done about it. Do I have any sort of case to be made against them for what they're doing? Being charged for dormant accounts? Surely there's some sort of way to avoid paying it off? This sort of thing they're doing, should be made illegal.

    Have you spoken to them?

    I can't see anything from a quick look online about dormant accounts being charged a fee. Unless it is a fee-paying account?

    If you want to keep it active, make a small payment to it.

    HSBC provide information here about why they will look to close dormant accounts. https://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/inactive-accounts

    If their T&C mentions that dormant account incurs charges then they are not breaking any rules. If you transfer even £1 in, then out again, then it's being used and no longer dormant.

    Once you pay it all off, you could try switching to another bank to close it if you can't just close it.

    Hi,

    If you make a transaction on the account then it will no longer be dormant account and will solve this issue, you can then work towards payment off the balance and closing the account.

    You could also switch your account out to another bank if they will match the overdraft amount and then it will get closed automatically as part of the switching process.
