Yesterday i received a text out of the blue which said i had failed to make contact with Newlyn. An enforcement agent is due to attend to remove goods as per court order. Then i got another one saying a removal truck has been ordered to take goods within 24 hours.
I have absolutely no idea what this is about as i haven't received any letters or anything. I rang them up but they asked me to confirm my address before they would say what the debt is which i declined to do. They said they already know my address but if they do then why haven't i received any letters? My Experian file is all clear as well.
No doubt there will be lots of extra fee's added on now that bailiffs are involved which is unfair as this is the first i have heard of it.
I have no idea what to do here. Can anyone give me advice?
Thanks

Have you moved recently ?
Could be a scam, scam texts are everywhere these days, check your credit files, all three providers, see if a CCJ has been registered.
Dont give personal details over the phone.
If anyone turns up and they are genuine, they will have paperwork, get them to post it, do not allow them entry to your home, they cannot break in, but can enter through an unlocked door, the paperwork should shed some light on the matter, if indeed its genuine.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I moved last August. I am on the electoral roll at this address. I have checked Experian and there is no CCJ registered or any poor credit. I have a good score.
I checked the number they asked me to reply to and it is the same one as on their website. Pretty sure it isn't a scam. I don't think they have my address and were just trying to trick me into giving them it.0 -
Your next step is trust on line then, if there is a CCJ it will be shown on there.
You need to know what this is about before you can deal with it.
Could be an old debt, long forgotten about, and they have used your old address for service, do you owe council tax at all ?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Sounds like a scam..especially if you think you have no outstanding debts. Sign up for MSE Credit Club and check out your score to see if anything looks suspicious..0

I thought it was a scam at first but the number they said to call back matches the one on their website.0

I checked on that website and there is nothing on there either.0 -
If they're acting under a liability order for council tax then there would be no CCJ registered to check - the only record would be held by the council and the issuing court. The enforcement agents will be able to confirm who the client is.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

They've sent you the text in the hope you will be stupid enough to ring them and give them your address. Good on you for not doing so.
I would send them a final text saying you will only deal with this matter in writing, and you await their correspondence."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Hi Spoony
If you look on Newlyns website it says they act as a bailiffs to collect council tax, non domestic rates (also known as business rates), road traffic debt (like parking tickets owed to councils) and commercial rent.
If you've never been self employed we can narrow this down to either being a council tax debt or a road traffic debt. It sounds like they have been writing to an old address, hence why you've had no paperwork.
Are you able to get your post forwarded from your previous address? And did you inform the DVLA of your change of address? If this is traffic related the council will have obtained your address from them.
Best wishes
Susie
