Quote for stud wall - seems excessive?!

Hi
We want to build a stud wall back in where there was originally a wall but the old owners removed it, its to separate the lounge and dining room and will be 3.4m wide. We want bi-fold doors which we are supplying that are 2.15m wide so the wall on either side will be minimal.
I have been quote £1350 for it which includes the following -
construction of stud wall
fitting of doors
architraves
skirting
plastering
moving light switch
So to confirm this quote doesn't include the door! It seems a lot to me...what do you think??

It'll all be labour.
Couple of joiners, labourers, plasterers.
How many chaps on the job?0 -
I would say that's about right for a very good standard of job.0

There's quite a bit of work/time required to do it all properly. Bi-fold doors can take a long time to install absolutely perfectly so they glide well and don't pinch. There'll be a lot of back and forth to get them right.
What did you expect the quote to be?0 -
Sounds about right to me too.
Your post title is misleading. If this were just a quote to knock up a stud wall and line it with plasterboard it would indeed be excessive for what is no more than a days work for a single chippie.
But it!!!8217;s not, it!!!8217;s a quote for much more than that, probably a couple of days for the chippie, half a day for a plasterer (who may still charge for a full day) and potentially a few hours for an electrician depending on how easy a job it is to move the light switch. Plus materials.0 -
I agree. I'd expect the job to be spot on for that money though.plumberpaig wrote: »I would say that's about right for a very good standard of job.
But OP, we can't see the job. We don't know what area you are in.
If I had a quid for every job I went to when I was a sparky that was "only a ten minute job" on the phone, I'd have a lot of quids.
If you're not happy with the quote I'd get another.0 -
Which doors are getting fitted
why not just put a folding door across the lot.
A 600mm wall each side will just have the doors sticking into usable space when folded back, without the walls they can go right back against the side wall.
Another option if you really want the mini walls would be a pocket door solution where the doors slide into the walls much neater than folders.0
