Microwaves that don't interfere with wifi?

My microwave is at the point where it's literally getting rusty, so time for a new one. (Can't complain - it's a cheapo Mitsui, I've had it for 16 years and it wasn't new then, it was a castoff from my mum.)

Roughly I'm looking for something about 25 litres, 800-900 W, and just a microwave (don't care about grill or combi oven). As far as that goes, I can figure out likely choices from reviews and shopping sites...

But what I can't see mentioned anywhere is wireless interference. When my current microwave is running, it really messes up the wifi signal in the kitchen - and I'm not sure whether this is just something all microwaves do, or whether some are better than others.

Any recommendations or anti-recommendations?? Thanks!

Did you ever get your old microwave tested for leakages?

The problem is that all microwave ovens and Wi-Fi 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n-2.4 all operate on the same frequency, around 2.4 GHz.

If your computery things have the capability you could changing to 802.11a, 802.11n and 802.11ac which operate around 5 GHz. This will have a lot less interference (but range may be reduced).

But if your microwave is leaking significant amounts of radiation at 2.4GHz, then it's about time it was chucked in the skip and replaced with a new one that doesn't leak radiation.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

    +1

If it totally messes up your WiFi then it sounds like it leaks. I would think after 16+ years the RF seals aren't that good.

Thanks all - yes, buying a new one is 100% the plan.

Is there any brand / model that is sealed to RF better than any other, or should I expect all new ones to be pretty similar?
