Barclaycard Platinum Travel Card

This card sounds almost too good to be true. It seems to offer pretty much what a Starling Bank debit card offers, namely no fees overseas on transactions and at ATMs. But since it's a visa the exchange rate you get is not as good as that you get on Mastercard.
Does anyone have this card? Is it hard to get, I think the advised income level is £20k a year but I keep getting offered the normal Barclaycard and I'm earning less than that! Any differences?
The website says: "No non-sterling transaction fees on your foreign spend and ATM withdrawals until 31 August 2022. After this, the fee returns to 2.99%."
Anyone see a catch here? Does it charge ATM fees if you use it in the UK maybe?

Yes it charges ATM fees in the UK.
I've only used it in the USA for contactless transactions as well as CostCo USA (Visa only). I still use my Starling for cash withdrawals...
It does the job.0 -
It's already well known as one of the best options for travel and listed high in the MSE travel credit card advice.Evolution, not revolution0

Does anyone know what options there are for existing Barclaycard holders to get their Platinum Travel card?
MSE states "You can't get this card if you're an existing Barclaycard customer or have had a Barclaycard within the past six months."
That implies that worst casescenario, you can cancel your Barclaycard, wait 6 months, then apply for the PT.
Is there no way to just switch? (And does anyone know the reason existing customers can't benefit from this?)0 -
So that they don't simply cannibalise their own base.0

As far as I'm aware, with Barclaycard they don't allow you to switch cards/products - you have to apply for the new card. Unfortunately at the moment Barclaycard are only allowing cardholders to have 1 Barclaycard. They usually relax this rule to 2, but you would need to call and check monthly to see when they change.
If you want the travel card then I would imagine you would have to cancel your current Barclaycard and then wait the 6 month period and apply for the travel one.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I have 2 Barclaycards.
I had a Barclaycard Cashback card at the time of my application to get the Travel Card (May/June 2017).
Current rules don't allow it, but it has been possible in the past.0 -

Hence why I said:Unfortunately at the moment Barclaycard are only allowing cardholders to have 1 Barclaycard. They usually relax this rule to 2, but you would need to call and check monthly to see when they change.

have you signed up to credit club on money saving expert? free credit report once a month with score, based on Experian scores. You will also be able to see eligibility and % score on probability of acceptance on a vast amount of cards, including travel cards. Nationwide, Aqua, Virgin all offer 0% transaction fees abroad (some higher APR though)0
