Income over declared now I’ve been over paid

So in 2016/2017, my first ever year of having used tax credits I mistakenly declared my income and then added on my bonuses as a company benefit. Fast forward to 2018 and I’ve been over paid on childcare for the current year but have only just realised when reading the letter regarding the over payment for this year my mistake with 2016/17 income. I’ve informed the tax credits office but have received a letter saying there is nothing they can do as the law prevents them from changing income prior to finalising that years claim.

Is there anything I can do as I over declared by £2600 and that’s quite a big chunk on my the actual income of £18758 for that year.
